On 9th December  2016 the High Sheriff of Gwynedd, Dr Peter Harlech Jones, will be hosting a gala charity concert in aid of Gwynedd Crimebeat and Criccieth Lifeboat featuring the leading Welsh tenor, Gwyn Hughes Jones, together with local artists Gwyneth Glyn, Piantel and Alys Roberts. Also appearing are two local choirs: Cor Cofnod Caernarfon and Cor Aelwyd Chwilog bringing a real local taste to the proceedings. The compere for the evening will be Mr Philip George of Criccieth

Gwyn Hughes Jones hails from Llanbedrgoch, Anglesey in Wales, and was trained as a baritone at Guildhall, winning the Kathleen Ferrier scholarship in 1992, before moving abroad to study with David Pollard as a tenor. He made his professional operatic debut in 1995 with Welsh National Opera. He has recently appeared in Madame Butterfly for Lyric Opera of Chicago and Nabucco for the Metropolitan Opera, New York. Future plans include performances at Teatro Regio, Parma, the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and English National Opera

The High Sheriff said “It is quite a coup to obtain the services of Gwyn Hughes Jones and our other artistes. I am looking forward to a fantastic evening of music and song whilst at the same time raising funds for two valuable causes that I have been involved with during my current term as High Sheriff. I would encourage you to but your tickets early to avoid disappointment”

There will also be an appearance by young people from the Menai Bridge Brass Band who will be performing during the concert interval. The Band have recently received a Crimebeat grant and the High Sheriff is delighted to be able this give concert- goers the opportunity to hear them perform.
