A
neighbourhood policing team located on Anglesey has decided to take action on their patch, in order to address a problematic seasonal issue.
Members of the Holyhead policing team have noticed a sharp increase in the number of recorded anti-social behaviour incidents occurring during the summer months. Therefore, they have devised a plan which will aim to reduce the frequency of these issues by engaging with local young people.
With the spat of anti-social behaviour incidents being associated with youths during the school summer holidays, the Holyhead neighbourhood policing team have been offering education, leisure and sport sessions to young locals.
These sessions have been held during the school summer holidays, running for four weeks, with two sessions per week. A series of specified topics such as anti-social behaviour, online safety, underage drinking, littering and criminal damage have been delivered by the local neighbourhood policing team and outside agencies.
By hosting such events, the local policing team have been able to engage with young people and form positive relationships. The time spent having fun in a safe environment, rather than on the streets has promoted good habits and fostered social inclusion for young people.
As a result of the ‘Get Positive in Holyhead’ summer project, the local community has benefited with youths being steered away from negative social activities and committing anti-social behaviour issues.
Participants were rewarded for their inclusion in the activity days, by being allowed to attend sessions at Anglesey Adventures, Ynys Mon Gymnastics Club and the Empire Cinema.
The High Sheriff’s Crimebeat Fund was able to support the ‘Get Positive in Holyhead’ project with a contribution of £800 for the running of their events.

Gydag ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol ymysg pobl ifanc yn cynyddu’n sylweddol yn ystod gwyliau haf yr ysgolion, aeth tîm plismona Caergybi ati i gynnig sesiynau addysgol, hamddena a chwaraeon i’r bobl ifanc leol.
Cynhaliwyd y sesiynau yn ystod gwyliau’r haf dros bedair wythnos gyda dwy sesiwn yn cael eu cynnig bob wythnos. Cyflwynodd y tîm plismona’r gymdogaeth ac asiantaethau allanol gyfres o sesiynau ar bynciau penodol megis ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol, cadw’n ddiogel ar-lein, yfed dan oed, taflu sbwriel a difrod troseddol.
Drwy gynnal digwyddiadau o’r fath bu modd i’r tîm plismona lleol ymgysylltu â phobl ifanc a meithrin cysylltiadau cadarnhaol. Mae’r amser a dreuliodd y bobl ifanc yn cael hwyl mewn amgylchedd diogel yn hytrach nag ar y stryd wedi hyrwyddo arferion da ac wedi cynyddu cynhwysiad cymdeithasol ar gyfer pobl ifanc.
O ganlyniad i’r prosiect hwn mae’r gymuned leol wedi bod ar eu hennill wrth i bobl ifanc gael eu dargyfeirio rhag gweithgareddau cymdeithasol negyddol ac ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol.
Cafodd y rhai hynny a gymerodd ran eu gwobrwyo drwy gael mynd i sesiynau yn Antur Môn, mynychu Clwb Gymnasteg Ynys Môn a gweld ffilmiau yn Sinema yr Empire.
Cafodd y prosiect gyfraniad ariannol gwerth £800 o Gronfa Trechu Trosedd yr Uchel Siryf tuag at gostau rhedeg y digwyddiadau.
