VPC Charlie Jones-Capper Some thoughts as a Volunteer Police Cadet and his year with the High Sheriff

For the past year VPC Charlie Jones- Capper has been one of four High Sheriff Cadets in Clwyd.

At the recent High Sheriff’s Community Awards ceremony held at Rydal School, Colwyn Bay  Charlie spoke to over 150 invited guests about his role as cadet and his time as High Sheriff Cadet.

Here’s what he said:

Good afternoon everyone,

My name is Charlie, and I am proud to serve as both a Senior Police Cadet and a High Sheriff Cadet in the Wrexham unit. It’s an honour to be part of a team that works hard to support our community, make a positive impact, and set an example for others.

Being a cadet is about more than just wearing the uniform—it’s about responsibility, teamwork, and making a real difference. Every day, we learn skills that prepare us for the future while giving back to the people around us.

I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, the lessons I’ve learned, and the people I’ve met along the way. I look forward to continuing to serve my unit and community with pride and dedication.  Thank you.

Charlie also told that he thoroughly enjoyed attending Crimebeat meetings, as well as passing out parades and citizenship ceremonies. During his time as High Sheriff Cadet he met a lot of interesting people and was proud to represent North Wales Police Cadets in the role of High Sheriff Cadet.

High Sheriff of Clwyd 2024/25, Karen Farrell-Thornley, told us:

“ During my year as High Sheriff of Clwyd one of my many highlights was my involvement with the police cadets. Watching the cadets in age ranges from 12 to 17 working together on projects as a team, building confidence and communication across all age ranges.

Becoming a Police Cadet is also not simply for youngsters who wish to follow a career in the police but is about young people having a chance to experience the works of our policing teams and engaging with our communities.

The proof of such benefits certainly showed on the day of my Awards ceremony with the speech from Charlie and also the confidence of Lucy, Seren and Ruby welcoming many guests and being actively involved as a support for the day.”
